March 7 - Christine Haanstad, 86, a resident of Stonecroft Village, died March 3, 2006 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
A private burial service was held at 10 a.m. on March 7 at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons John Haanstad, Kevin Haanstad Shay, Eric Haanstad, Isaac Melton, Judah Melton and Micah Melton and grandsons-in-law, Geoff Bilcer and Bill Walsh. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons-in-law, Tim Trebesch and Adam Cahoon. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. on March 7 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Peterson officiating and a reception was held in Fellowship Hall at St. John's following the service.
Mrs. Haanstad was born Sept. 5, 1919 in Van Hook, N.D. to Morris and Marit Brodahl. She married E.J. Haanstad on Sept. 5, 1937 in Van Hook.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Rev. E.J. Haanstad; one brother, Palmer Brodahl of Bremerton, Wash.; one sister, Murial (Clarence "Jens") Jensen of Boulder, Colo.; her children, Morry (JoAnn) Haanstad of Sun City, Ariz., Dorcas Haanstad of Belmont, Mass., Paul (Nancy) Haanstad of Salt Lake City, Utah, Martin (Evelyn) Haanstad of Neenah, Wis., Jeanette (Allan) Severson of Rockford and Liz (Dick) Melton of Davenport, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, John (Sandy) Haanstad, Kari (Geoff Bilcer) Haanstad, Kevin (Gabria) Haanstad Shay, Elizabeth (Tim) Trebesch, Katherine (Adam) Cahoon, Julie (Bill) Walsh, Eric Haanstad and Sarah, Isaac, Judah and Micah Melton; five great-grandchildren, Kirsten and Aidan Trebesch, Annicka and Elli Haanstad and Billy Walsh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Sevald Brodahl; and one grandson, Mark Haanstad.
