Funeral services for Helen Louise Miller Maddox, 96, a life-long resident of Greenville will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Germantown Methodist Hospital, Germantown, TN. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Helen was born April 27, 1918. She was the youngest and last surviving child of Howard and Nancy Katherine Miller of Greenville. She had six sisters, Stella Gentry, Annie Collins, Dollie Norwood, Katie Ruth Mitchell, Lucille Lewis, and Laura Borgstadt and three brothers, Ardrey "Buddy" Miller, Max Miller, and Hagaman Miller.

Helen graduated from Greenville High School in 1935. She worked at the former Greenville Air Force Base and at the Washington County Chancery Clerk's office prior to her marriage.

In 1948, she married Bill F. Maddox, Sr. of Avon, MS. They had three children, Nancy, Bill, and Laurie. Helen was devoted to her children and family. A wonderful cook, she loved to have family holiday celebrations, and delighted in family gatherings. As her four grandchildren joined the family, she also doted on them.

Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville all of her life. She was also a lifetime member of the Alice Bell Garden Club of Greenville. She loved Greenville, and often commented on its beautiful trees.

Once her children were older, Helen worked at the William Alexander Percy Memorial Library, and later at the Washington County Department of Human Services.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Bill F. Maddox, Sr., and by all of her siblings.

She leaves her daughter, Nancy Maddox of Olive Branch, MS, her son, Dr. Bill F. Maddox, Jr. (Pam) of Greenville, and her daughter, Laurie Gaut (Jim) of Germantown, TN. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Ben Maddox, Sam Maddox, and Miller Maddox, all of Greenville, and Katherine Helen Gaut of Germantown, TN.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to visitation at the funeral home.
