She was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Thetford, the daughter of Aden and Mildred (Kent) Rice.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1942.
On Sept. 14, 1942, she married Roland E. Abbott in Springfield. He died in 2004.
For several years, Mrs. Abbott worked as a teacher's aide in the Springfield School System and also at Britt's Department Store in Springfield.
She was a member of United Methodist Church and the Senior Center, as well as a volunteer at the Family Center, all in Springfield.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, candlepin bowling in the Park Street Bowl leagues, and playing and calling bingo.
Survivors include three children, Michael Abbott of Sellersburg, Ind., Barbara Rawson of Londonderry and Bonnie Gambero of Milton; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Abbott was also predeceased by a daughter, Bette Craig, in 2010; and by her siblings Leslie, Donald, Wendell and Gordon Rice, Doris Davis, Helen Cantrell and Florence Duquette.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Davis Memorial Chapel, where friends may call from 10 a.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. Gerry Piper, pastor of United Methodist Church, and followed by burial in Oakland Cemetery and then a reception at United Methodist Church, all in Springfield.
