John Neely was born to Rutha Neely on April 2, 1872 in Wayne County, Kentucky. He was married to Martha Melinda Black in 1888 and she passed away on October 21, 1942. He then married Aliby Mitchell Hall in 1943. He grew into manhood working at farming and lumbering. In his early forties, he moved to Lawrence County and worked in the limestone quarries. After some fifteen years of quarry work, he returned to farming. John and his wife Aliby were regular attended the Oak Grove Pentecost, al Church in Springville. Survivors included three daughters, Mrs. Rathmiel (Vangie) Thompson of Springville, Mrs. Clint (Charity) Casada of Kidder Kentucky, and Mrs. Willie (Sarah) Jones of Hobbieville, Indiana. Five sons, Floyd of Chalmette, Louisiana, Euell and George of Indianapolis, Willie and Ed of Kidder, Kentucky, 78 grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren. One sister, Cora Brown of Kidder, Kentucky, also four step sons, Wesley and Robert Hall of Oolitic, Clarence Hall of Phoenix, Arizona and Ted Hicks of Bedford. Two step daughters, Mrs. William (Elloyd) Workman and Mrs. Charlotte Houtchings both of Greene County. A daughter, two sons and a step daughter proceded him in death. His second wife, Aliby, preceded him in death on April 10, 1965. A funeral service was held in the Elmwood Chapel of Day and Carter Mortuary with Rev. Claude Cobb officiating. The final resting place was the Springville Methodist Cemetery.
One son Samuel Neely was born September 20, 1901 and died April 15, 1904. His clothes caught on fire. Do not know where he is buried.
