Mariah, born the 2nd of January 1811 in Putnam County, New York and is to have died the 20th of March 1893 in Bureau County, Illinois, is the daughter of John & Lydia (Sunderlin) Wright, who along with her Maternal grandparents, Daniel & Lydia (Wortman) Sunderlin are also buried here in "Barrington Baptist Cemetery". After the death of her husband James W. Swarthout, she is said to have married Joseph Merritt and moved to Illinois. Her daughter Mary S. (Swarthout) Griswold moved there with her husband Augustus R. Griswold.
