"John H. Cooney, an 83-year resident of Nebraska, died early Sunday in his home at 5349 North Forty-forth Avenue following a long illness. He was 87.
Born in Illinois, Mr. Cooney came to Nebraska with his family in 1880 and settled on a homestead near Overton. He later moved to Kearney and lived there until coming to Omaha in 1941.
Survivors: sons, Richard, Omaha, and Daniel, Pico Rivera, Cal.; daughters, Donna, Margaret and Mrs. Bryan Knox, all of Omaha, and Veronica, Los Angeles, Cal.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A requiem mass will be said Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Richard's Church with burial in Cavalry Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 8 p.m. Tuesday at the John Johnston and Son's Mortuary."
