William Edwain Dobbs, 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas, went to be with the Lord in the peace of his own home on Friday, June 20, 2014. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Evelyn Marie Lemer; son, Mark Edwin Dobbs and brother, Harry Haut Dobbs Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Marie Middleton (Blake), and Anne Dobbs Cabanski (Tom); as well as siblings-in-law, Helen Dobbs Gaines, and Joe Lemer (Ruby).

Bill was born on March 20, 1928 in San Marcos, Texas to Ludie Belle and Harry Haut Dobbs; Alva Lee Camp was his stepfather. Bill, who was the first child born in in a hospital in San Marcos, spoke fondly of his childhood years, which included serving as captain of the San Marcos High School football team. After earning a Master's of Education degree at Southwest Texas State Teachers College, he moved to Corpus Christi to accept a job teaching at Fisher Elementary School. Soon after, he was promoted to Principal of Crossley Elementary at the age of 24. He loved working in education and had a talent for remembering every child's name. He spent 32 years at Menger, Prescott, and Sanders Elementary Schools and retired at the age of 58. Bill was patriotic and a retired Major in the U.S. Army.

His grandchildren were a special part of his life; Nash Middleton, Leigh Middleton Tilma and her husband Gerry Tilma, Dugan Dobbs, Clay Middleton, Katherine Bunting, and Christine Bunting will miss him dearly. He had two great-grandchildren, Jean and Willem Tilma.

Many of Bill's and Evelyn's early retirement years were spent traveling with close friends, Sam and Deane Dubois. Bill was a devout Christian, member of First Christian Church, and the strength with which he approached this life was a result of his faith. More recently, he was blessed with wonderful friends at the Lindale Senior Center, where he led an exercise class, played volleyball, and danced the night away with his beautiful companion, Pat Arringdale.

Interment to follow service at Seaside Memorial Park.
