Kirby Lynn Woods, 76, of Sunnydell, died unexpectedly of natural causes Wednesday, June 18th, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Kirby was born November 7th, 1937, in Kingston, Utah; a son of Lawrence Woods and Carma Brindley. He was raised in Kingston and moved to Idaho as a young man. He attended Archer Elementary and Madison High School. He married the love of his life, Lahna Nelson of Sunnydell, September 26th, 1956, in Sunnydell. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on February 1st, 1964. After they were married, they moved to Pocatello where their four sons, Michael, David, Tracy and Kevin were born. It was later while working in California that their daughter Sherise was born. When they lived in California, Kirby worked finishing and repairing swimming pools. They transferred to Virginia before finally returning home to Idaho in 1972. His love was working with heavy equipment. He worked in that industry and was known for his expertise in handling the equipment and also mentoring many. He loved to spend time with his family and watch the beautiful sunsets while listening to his bubbler rock on the front porch. He was known for being kind and considerate of others and always had a special place in his heart for the disabled. He loved children and was known to many in and even outside of the family as "dad and grandpa." He was a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of high priest. His testimony and love of the gospel was an example to all who know him. He was always available and willing to help anyone if needed at any time. He loved telling stories of his youth and his adventures to his children and his grandchildren. They love and cherished his stories. He loved square dancing and he and his beautiful wife danced until ill health prevented this cherished activity. They were members of several square dancing groups in the upper valley. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Lahna of Sunnydell, his children; Michael of Sunnydell, David (Trina) of Rigby, Tracy of Vancouver, Wa., Kevin (Angie) of Vancouver, Wa., and Sherise (John) of Stansbury Park, Utah, his brother Dean (Faye) Woods of Menan, his sisters Deanna Dawson of Ririe, Debra Rumsey of Idaho Falls, Marqueta (Charlie) Harrison of Idaho Falls, and Melanie (Reese) Clawson of Idaho Falls, 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and counting. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Leston. The family will meet with friends and family members Sunday, June 22nd from 6-7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main, Rigby). Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23rd at 11:00 a.m. with family and friends visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Sunnydell LDS Ward Church (201 West 8000 South) Rexburg.
