James Floyd Daves was born in Quitman AK to William Marlin and Amanda Maude Daves. He was the oldest son in a family of seven girls and five boys. Floyd married Glennis Atkinson in Magnum Oklahoma in 1931. To this union were born seven sons and five daughters. In 1942 they moved to the Dove Creek Colorado area. Floyd was a good provider. The family remembers never having a lot of money, but there was always enough. He worked hard and taught his family how to work. Floyd loved to farm, hunt, fish, trade, visit and eat. Most of all he loved life - lived with a twinkle in his eye and some mischievous plan at work in his mind. Some called him the "Arkansas Trader", he was always ready for a trade. "Trade you pocket knives, sight unseen", he'd say with that twinkle on high-beam. He traded a horse and saddle for his first piece of land. He loved to farm and raised some of the best beans in the county. He passed that love for farming on to his sons'. We'll miss our Dad and Grandpa but his memories will live on.
