Carl Lee Avant, husband of Elaine Avant, departed this life on the morning of June 18, 2014, in Charleston.

Mr. Avant was born February 15, 1940 in Walterboro, a son of the late C. D. "Jim" and Tulia Avant.

Carl was a veteran of the United States Navy, and lived and worked in the Philadelphia and South Jersey Area. He was also a foreman at the Library Association Book Bindery for thirty years.

Mr. Avant loved the outdoors, and was an assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. He retired and moved back to South Carolina with his loving wife and built a log cabin on three acres of land in Ruffin.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Becky Manzo, Kevin (Amy), Troy and Travis Avant; three brothers: Jimmy, Neil, and Don Avant; sister Peggy White; 11 grandchildren: Jen, Mike, Shane, Emma, Josh, Christina, Derek, Divad, David, Donna, and Alexis; and three great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Divonna and Lena.

He was preceded in death by a son Ashley, and by a sister Polly DeWitt.

The funeral service will be held June 25th at 11AM at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Doctor's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
