Benjamin was one of the original proprietors of Ashford. He made large land purchases in 1719. He was appointed highway planner and surveyor of Ashford in 1715 and admitted to the Ashford church on 9 December 1718 and served as an elder of the church. He was a lieutenant in the Ashford militia formed in 1722. It is interesting to note that both Lt. Benjamin and his son Benjamin died within a few days of each other in the same year suggesting an illness or epidemic at that time. Lt. Benjamin was 77, but his son Benjamin was 52.
