Kathleen Merrill Keegan
August 8, 1920 - June 21, 2013
Kathleen Dorothy Keegan was a 3rd generation San Franciscan born to Mary and Hugh Mooney; loving wife to Elmer Merrill (deceased) and Bill Keegan (deceased). She was a devoted mother. Kathleen leaves behind adoring grandchildren. Kathleen is survived also by her loving sister as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Dolores Cadden, Alice Curran, Charlie, Cyril, Robert and Gene Mooney.
Kathleen grew up on Angel Island where she lived twenty years pre World War II. After a 25-year career with Wells Fargo, Kathleen retired as an operations supervisor in 1985. An avid SF Giants fan, one of Kathleen's fondest memories was spent with her daughters and her two sisters, Alice and Barbara, at Giants' Spring Training.
In living her life as a devout Catholic, Kathleen personified all that is good and just, becoming a role model for all who knew her. A devoted parishioner at St. Gabriel Church, she was an active member in the Sodality of the Miraculous Medal and for years, every Monday, helped with the weekly collections. She actively participated in St. Cecilia's knit group.
We will always cherish childhood memories of camping, Capitola, Johnson's at the River, Calistoga, family picnics, and wonderful family dinners. Mom's faith, spirit, and personality live on in each of us and with our family and friends who were also touched by her specialness.
We acknowledge with deep gratitude Mom's loving and considerate caregivers, Lynn Gallen and Lyn Real, who so greatly enhanced Mom's quality of life.
A visitation for family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m. followed by a Vigil Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28th, Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 a.m., St. Gabriel Church, 2559 - 40th Avenue, San Francisco, CA. The committal will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the American Liver Transplant Foundation [in memory of Kathleen's son, Tom Merrill], or to the charity of your choice.
