MOONEY, Eugene Leo - Passed away peacefully August 20, 2005 at age 82. Dearly beloved husband of Kathleen Stella Mooney and the late June Mooney; loving and devoted father of Steven Mooney and his wife Kathleen, and Mary Jean Lee. Cherished grandfather of Anne and Maya and great grandfather of Samra. Dear son of the late Hugh and Mary Mooney. Dear brother of Alice Curran, Kathleen Keegan, Barbara Nelson, and the late Charles and Cyril Mooney and Dolores Cadden. Stepfather of Mark, Rick and Claudia Stella. Step-grandfather of Cassandra, Nicole, Kelly, Jaime, Shea and Vincent. Gene was raised with his family on Angel Island. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II on the USS Maryland and USS Rutland. He worked for the City and County of San Francisco for 35 years retiring as chief stationary engineer. In his retirement, Gene owned, and along with his brother, Charles, operated the commercial fishing boat, Star of the Sea. Gene was a member of St. Robert's parish, the United Irish Cultural Center, the Elks Club, the S.I.R.S. and Union Local #39. An avid hunter, fisherman and golfer, Gene was entirely devoted to his large and loving family. He was an active volunteer on the SS Jeremiah O'Brien and thoroughly enjoyed his many hours spent with his shipmates. He was a participant in the Jeremiah's voyage to Normandy in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the D Day Invasion. Family and friends may visit Monday from 3-9 pm and are invited to attend the Vigil Service at 7pm at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Ave. Daly City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday August 23 at 10:30 am at St. Robert Church, 1380 Crystal Springs Rd. San Bruno. Donations to American Diabetes Assoc., P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.
