Resident of San Leandro, Paul G. Meier Sr. passed away on Sept. 28, 2013 at age 87 while residing at Carlton Plaza of San Leandro, attended by VITAS Hospice Care. The family sincerely thanks the staff at Carlton Plaza and VITAS for their care and support. Born on Feb. 6, 1926 in Peoria, IL to Jacob and Pauline [Gerst] Meier, he was 1 of 8 children. His other siblings preceded him in death. Following graduation from High School in June 1943, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy and studied to be a Corpsman in Great Lakes, IL. He transferred to Alameda, Aiea Heights, HI, San Diego and Oakland. While stationed in Oakland, Paul met and married his cute and adorable wife Marge. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1947, Paul started his long career as a Cable Splicer for P. G. & E. After the birth of their third child, the family moved to San Leandro where he lived the remainder of his life. Paul was very active in a number of organizations, rising to the highest level in many. They included the Boy Scouts, Shriners, Elks, Masons, Board of Education, PTA, Dad's Club, Eastshore Neighbors, SIRS and Eastern Star. He touched the lives of everyone he met. His outgoing attitude, humor and quick wit will be greatly missed. He loved to make people laugh and was known for his many different T-Shirts, especially his colorful 94577 Zip Code shirts worn in Dialysis. He and Marge loved to dance. He loved taking pictures and passed that enthusiasm on to his daughter. Not enough words can be said about Paul's passion for Jig Saw Puzzles. He was a master at putting them together. Paul is survived by his son Paul G. Meier Jr. (Theresa) of San Leandro, son Dave E. Meier (Cindi) of Suisun, daughter Jan Higdon (Al) of Livermore and son Mark Meier of San Leandro. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, their husbands and wives and 11 great grandchildren. Paul also has many loving nieces and nephews living in California, the Midwest and the U.K. Paul requested Cremation at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. He will be placed in the Courage Mausoleum next to his wife Marge who passed away in 2001. A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends on Nov. 2, 2013.
