Nila Roscoe Barnes, 84 years old of Mt. Sterling, peacefully drifted home June 14, 2014. He was born on August 7, 1929, the son of the late Henry Clay Barnes and Bessie Golden Barnes. Roscoe served in the US Army and worked most of his life as a farmer. He was proud of his 56 year marriage to Lois Lorene Snowden Barnes, and his children, Lois Ann Barnes-Bailey (Jason) and Nila Roscoe Barnes, Jr. (Melissa). Roscoe was always happy to tell you about his grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Ann Snyder and Nila Roscoe Barnes, III. Other survivors include two sisters, Thelma Craycraft of Ohio, and Merbia Claire of Texas, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen Nelson Barnes and Ellis Clifton Barnes.

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Taul Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Dunn officiating and burial following in the Longview Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday evening at the Taul Funeral Home from 6-9 PM. Pallbearers will be Tony Snowden, Devin Snowden, Cameron Snowden, Jeremy Bailey, Steve Smathers, Pete Follett and Barry Follett. Honorary pallbearers will be L. T. Follett. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 22.
