Glenn William Thrush was born the second child of Glenn and Marian Thrush. He was a "tow head" blonde as a child. He was raised surrounded by the extended family of both his parents. School years began in far western Franklin Co. in a small school house on Rt. 40. For a time his childhood was spent on the farm of his Thrush grandparents on Rt. 40, east of Alton, Ohio.

The family moved to Columbus, Ohio where he attended John Borroughs Elementary, West Junior and West High School. A child of the 30's, he loved baseball and later lettered in that sport, as well as basketball & football during his high school years. Bill was an accomplished athlete and a popular student. Happy high school days ended with graduation in 1950 from Columbus West High School. He attended Ohio State University prior to volunteering for service in the USAF.

Bill left the family home on S. Westgate Ave. for service in the USAF during the Korean War. He enlisted in Dec. 1951 and served four years until Dec. 1955, when he was honorably discharged. Training as a radio operator took place at Kessler AFB in Mississippi. He served in the 42nd Air Rescue Squadron In Korea. Upon returning to the U.S., Bill was stationed at March AFB in California. He played on the March AFB basketball team. Bill was a Staff Sgt. when he separated from service in the USAF.

During his service he married his first wife Barbara Suver in a formal wedding ceremony. Barbara met Bill while attending West High School.
After discharge he returned to Columbus, Oh. and there his first child Clinton William Thrush was born in 1956. He began working for the local newspaper, The Citizen Journal and later the Columbus Dispatch as a mailer, which was a family trade. Bill worked in this industry until his retirement forty years later, having never missed a day of work!

In 1961 Bill married Ruth McDermiitt in Columbus, Oh. Two daughters were born to this union. Their home was made in New Rome, Oh. He later relocated to Phoenix, Arizona which was his home for 38 years. Bill loved the western U.S. and travelled extensively there in his lifetime. He spent many happy times in Las Vegas.

Glenn William Thrush was saved and baptized as an adult while attending North Phoenix Baptist Church. After that he remained an active church member for the rest of his life.

He and Susan Grubert married in Phoenix, Az. and Bill became a loving stepfather to Christa and Cameron. The couple later relocated to New Albany, Indiana where he was a member of New Albany Baptist Church. His last months were spent in their home in New Albany.

Since my fathers passing it has been discovered that he is a direct descendant of Revolutionary War patriot, Stephen Yeoman. He would have been proud of this lineage.

Bill Thrush was a proud American. He had a love of history and was well informed in political matters. His sense of humor is memorable. Always a true gentleman with a kind heart, he is fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched. Most importantly, his greatest legacy was his strong Christian faith and love of God.
