Raymond "Stretch" Soward, 84, of Independence, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at his residence. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Stretch dedicated his life to his work and family. He spent many years as a loyal employee of Kinnaird Body Works. He retired as a Welder from the City of Covington. Stretch enjoyed working on his farm and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Stretch is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Pearl Soward; brothers, Louis, Jr and Earl Soward; sisters, Peggy Wilson, Florance Kolic, Charlotte Haubner, Ruth Ann O'Rourke, and Betty Jean Schnitker. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years June Soward of Independence; son, Mike (Sandy) Soward of Independence; daughters, Laura Soward of Latonia, Cathy Gerke of El Cajon, CA; brothers, Danny Soward of Cleveland, OH, Donald (Patti) Soward, David Soward of Crestview Hills, Kenneth (Donna) Soward of Crescent Park; sisters, Evelyn Arkwell of Ayliett, VA, Sylvia Goodman of Zenia, OH , Wanda Austin of Elsmere; grandchildren, Amanda Soward, Derek Soward and Danny Gerke. Visitation is Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 2:00PM to the hour of service at 4:00PM all in Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, 316 Elm Street, Ludlow, KY 41016.
