Ruth Janet Pearson Waddoups, 94, of Moore, Idaho left this life Sunday, January 22, 2006.
Ruth was born July 25, 1911, in Moore, Idaho to Geneva Therisa Pratt and Albert Russell Pearson. She was raised in the Moore area, graduated from Moore High School and then from Ricks College.
She married Royal Dean Waddoups May 2, 1935, and they raised eight children on their Darlington ranch—Merlin, Arlo, Ivan, Olive, Royal, Genae, LaNice and Chris.
Ruth was a truly unselfish, kind and caring person. Her life was a true example of service to others. She managed the office/book-keeping duties for the Lost Rivers Hospital for many years and then was the secretary/receptionist to Dr. Barter until her retirement. She knew every patient and treated each with kindness and thoughtfulness. A trip to the hospital or doctor’s office was made as pleasant as possible by her calm and loving attendance to the needs of the patients. She spent many hours, sometimes after the office was closed, helping people with their insurance problems and questions.
Ruth was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities through the years. She was a scout leader, a teacher, the Relief Society President, a librarian, a temple worker and a dedicated visiting teacher. She loved family history and spent many, many hours gathering and cataloging names and information on family lines. She loved extraction work and spent many hours at the computer until the loss of her eyesight made it impossible for her to continue. This loss of sight was a great disappointment to her but she stayed positive and found countless other ways to serve and help others. Family and friends always found a listening ear and a compassionate heart at Ruth’s home. Her strong testimony, softly and humbly shared, blessed the lives of all.
Ruth loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was often found rocking a child, playing a card game, building block house, baking that “special” treat, making an animal farm, or just talking with each child making each one feel as if they were the most important thing in the world. She attended her children and grandchildren’s activities as long as she was able and maintained a unique closeness with each. This close connection made all feel welcome at Grandma’s house, whether it was to just come and absorb the peaceful atmosphere, to share a wonderful joy and accomplishment or to find comfort and help with a burden or sadness.
Survivors include five sons, Merlin (Karen) Waddoups, Moore, Id, Arlo (Janet) Waddoups, St. George, UT, Ivan (Annette) Waddoups, Los Lunas, NM, Royal (Gloria) Waddoups, Springville, UT and Chris (Becky) Waddoups, Idaho Falls, ID; three daughters, Olive (Neal) Harwood, Idaho Falls, ID, Genae (Ryan) McAffee, Leslie, ID and LaNice (Alan) Groesbeck, Mapleton, UT; 43 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren,, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, four brothers, Albert, Marion, Pershing and Pratt Pearson, a granddaughter, Stacy McAffee and a great grandson, Zane preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Moore Idaho Stake Center in Moore, ID at 11:00 a.m. on January 26, 2006 with Bishop Kim Davies officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25th, at the Hawker Lost River Funeral Chapel and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the Moore Idaho Stake Center. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Dean, in the Lost River Cemetery.
Prior to her death, she requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Lost Rivers Hospital, Senior Citizen Center or the LDS Humanitarian or Temple Fund.
