Wilhelm Karl Albrecht Leopold Friedrich Moritz Erdmann von Anhalt, the nominal last Duke of Anhalt. He was a minor when he inherited the dukedom and never ruled in his own name. His uncle, Prinz Aribert, acting as regent, renounced the throne in name of the family of Askania after the revolutionary events of 1918, ending a rule of nearly a thousand years. Joachin Ernst was arrested by the Nazis in 1944 and sent to Dachau Concentration Camp. Soviet occupation troops arrested him at the end of the war and sent him to the NKWD Camp Buchenwald, where he died of exhaustion. The family had his remains removed to the grounds of Ballenstedt Castle in 2007.
