Charles Lawrence Shilling was the son of (unknown) Shilling (born Ireland) and (unknown) Wyman (born KY). He moved from Ohio to Kansas, where he married Alta M. Perham in McPherson County about 1900. Charles and Alta moved to Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona, about 1910. By 1920 they had relocated to nearby Warren. From Warren they moved to Yuma in 1921. After a few years Charles and Alta moved to Smartsville, Yuba County, California, where both of them remained for the rest of their lives.

NOTE: Buried in Smartsville Fraternal Cemetery.
