Obituary Notices -
Mrs. Elenor Locke and her Daughter Catherine -
The church and community here, have sustained a great loss in the death of Sister Locke, who died on the 7th of March, aged 47 years. – She was the beloved wife of Brother Enos Locke and daughter of Mr. Samuel Locke Senr. On the 13th of February she was called upon to resign into the cold arms of Death her lovely child Catherine, aged 6 years, who died of diphtheria. She had nearly exhausted herself in attending the child during her sickness. Immediately after her death she took a severe cold, which fastened on her lungs and baffled all the skill which would be obtained. Her sufferings were intense but she bore them with Christian resignation and composure. Sister Locke professed religion and joined the Baptist Church in Ragged Islands, in 1833, under the ministry of the Rev. Anthony Dimock. – From that time till her death she maintained her integrity as a Christian with rare consistency. She was a regular attendant upon the means of grace. Kind and benevolent in disposition, her life was indeed a living epistle of the grace of God. She has left a husband, five children, and a large circle of relatives to mourn their loss. – My God graciously sanctify the bereavement to them, and enable us all to imitate her virtuous example. – Communicated.
