Ole Amundsen Buslett was the oldest of eight children born to Amund Halvorsen Buslett and Netta (Kalstad) Ringsrud on 28 May 1855 in Gausdal, Oppland, Norway. He came to the United States with his family in 1868 and settled in Iola (Waupaca County), Wisconsin. He died in Northland, Wisconsin on 5 June 1924 at the age of 69.

According to articles written about his life and work, the Wisconsin State Historical says he was often called the “father of Norwegian American literature”.

Buslett’s work included novels, stories, poems, and plays written in the Norwegian language. His work portrayed the lives of Norwegian immigrants in Wisconsin. Buslett’s work was also known to criticize the immigrants’ longing for the homeland. In 1894 he wrote a history of the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment in his native language which was translated and published in English during 1999. Buslett was also the editor of three Norwegian newspapers.

As a Republican, he held local offices in Waupaca County and was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1909 to 1910. He served as postmaster, justice of the peace and town clerk in Northland, Wisconsin.
