D. C. Garris Dies From Injuries
Harrisville - Daniel Chester Garris, 51, of Harrisville RD 1 (Wesley), died in Grove City Hospital at 11:42 a.m. Sunday, from injuries received in a freak truck accident Wednesday afternoon in Wesley. Mr. Garris was trying to start a truck owned by Taejon Coal Company when the heavy vehicle coasted forward crushing him between the moving coal truck and a parked machine. Dr. A. G. Lyons, Mercer County Coroner, issued a certificate of accidental death as the result of brake failure on the stalled truck. Mr. Garris was born in Beaver City, Clarion County, on January 15, 1909, a son of Howard L. and Alberta Berlin Garris, who both survive. He was united in marriage with the former Mary Crowthers, on December 23, 1938. Mr. Garris was a trucker by profession, and at the time of his death was employed by the Taejon Coal Company in Wesley. He was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Reformed Church of Knox. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by the following children, Gerald L., with the U. S. Navy, and Richard C., Myrna I., Daniel R., and Deborah May, all at home. Also surviving are three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Mary G. Mong, of Harrisville RD 1, Mrs. Ted (Ruby) Bish, of Knox RD 2, Mrs. Forest (Mildred) Shoup, of Parker RD 2, and Ivan L. Garris, of Butler RD 1. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call at Donavan Funeral Home, Clintonville, anytime after 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Roy Frazier, pastor United Church of Christ and former pastor of Evangelical United Brethren Reformed Church of Knox, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Union Cemetery, Knox.
