Edward's last name has been spelled in many ways, sometimes as Saunderson, sometimes even without the last syllable, as Sanders. Edward was born in England about 1615, and it is claimed that he travelled to New England on the ship "Increase" from Ipswich, England in 1635, although his name is not on the manifest of that vessel. Edward did settle in Watertown, Massachusetts, where he was an early proprietor.

Edward married in Watertown on October 16, 1645, Mary Eggleston. Mary is supposed to have some connection to Bygod Eggleston, but nothing has ever been found to connect her to the Egglestons of Windsor. Edward and Mary had five children born in Watertown. Edward sold his land and home in Watertown to William Shattuck and moved with his family to Cambridge, where he took the oath of fidelity in 1652. Edward moved his family back to Watertown by January of 1661, when it was noted in the town records that his six children were illiterate. The town placed at least two of his children with other families for apprenticeship in 1671. Edward is supposed to have died in Cambridge in 1680. However, some genealogists say he died on September 1, 1674. The record of the death of Mary has not been found, but she was probably given assistance in Watertown in 1687.
