History of Lycoming County by J F Meginnes:

Ralph Elliot was born in Fritlick, County Tyrone Ireland and came to America with is parents on board the dialing ship Radies in 1812. The voyage was an adventurous one, lasting 27 days during which the ship lay entangled among ice fields. upon arriving in New York, the Elliott's went to Philadelphia a d settled in Kensington. Ralph went to work in a cotton factory, where he received $1 per week wages. He managed to get some education and then worked on his father's farm. In 1820 he settled in Newberry, Lycoming county and carried on a store for two years, he then removed to Williamsport where he built a brick structure wherein he carried on a mercantile until 1841. On May 22 1832 he married Mary, daughter of William Gibson who became the mother of 6 children: Mary R, Rebecca J, William G, Henry C, Ralph P and Annie E. In 1841 he removed to his farm on the West Branch of the Susquehanna river in Armstrong Township where his wife died. In 1864 he sold the farm and moved to Williamsport where he died. He and his wife were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamsport. He was one of the originators of the Market Street Bridge.

The venerable Ralph Elliott, one of Williamsport's oldest and most respected citizens, died last night in the 91st year of his age. Mr. Elliot had been ill for some time but his vigorous constitution enabled his to rally back from each attack. his death was caused by the infirmities of old age. The funeral will take place from his home with interment in Washington Street Cemetery.

Additional information from his obituary: Mr. Elliott was united in marriage on Dec 12 1872 to Miss Elizabeth Fritz daughter of John Fritz, deceased, formerly of Williamsport.
