In his early life, he was an Indian fighter and took part in numerous campaigns and forays and served for a time with Colonel William Crawford's ill-fated expedition against the Indians in the Sandusky country.
On 15 November 1783, he married Mary Cotton, daughter of Henry Cotton of Bedford, PA. Isaac and Mary were among the founders of the Pigeon Creek Presbyterian church.
They had a large family of children, seven who died early in life. The others were: John, Henry, Isabell, Samuel, Mary, Martha and Isaac.
Both Isaac and Mary died in South Strabane township.
