FORMER LOCAL MAN KILLED IN TEXAS BLAST
Irvin Griffin, 35, a former Lebanon resident was killed in the Texas City disaster, his mother, Mrs. Julia Griffin, 413 Taylor ave., was informed this morning.
Shortly before the message was delivered, Mrs. Griffin and a son, Ulys Griffin, had left Lebanon to visit Mrs. Griffin's son, a patient at Mt. Vernon sanatorium.
Bill Griffin told a Record reporter that Irvin Griffin had been employed in Texas City for the last three years.
Irvin Griffin, a son of Mrs. Julia Griffin, was born and reared in White Oak Pond vicinity. His father, Charles Griffin, died 11 years ago.
He is the first of a family of 11 children to die. They are Henry Griffin, Bill Griffin, Lebanon; Russell Griffin living in Kansas; Ulys Griffin, St. Louis; Andy Griffin, Oakland; Mrs. Bessie Hoskins, Versailles; Mrs. Jessie Brown, Lebanon; Mrs. Marie Ford, Lebanon; Mrs. Pearl Rogers, Latham; Mrs. Lora Waugh, Lebanon.
Henry Griffin left Lebanon today for Texas City.
The body of Ervin Griffin, killed in the explosions at Texas City, Texas, arrived in Lebanon Thursday morning and was taken to Holman's Funeral Home. A brother, Henry Griffin, went to Texas City to accompany the body here.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. yesterday at White Oak Pond Church, with Rev. Henry Long in charge.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
