Walter Gust Herzog, 83, of 745 Lee Ave., Brillion, died unexpectedly Saturday at his home, apparently of a heart attack.
Mr. Herzog was born Jan. 4, 1902, in the Town of Maple Grove, son of Louie and Helen Henning Herzog. He married Laura Wordell on June 19, 1927, in Reedsville. She died Nov. 9, 1962. Mr. Herzog and the former Lina Geiger were married on May 25, 1968, in Maple Grove.
Mr. Herzog farmed in the Town of Maple Grove, where he had been a town supervisor for 18 years and town chairman for two years before moving to Brillion. He was a member of Ss. John and James Lutheran Church of Reedsville.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Cyril (Betty) Serwe of Shawano, and Carol of Green Bay; one son, Myron of rural Reedsville; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Wally (Irene) Ray of Denmark, Wis., Mrs. Dorothy Vogel of Miladore; and Mrs. Elroy (Virgina) Boettcher of rural Brillion; three stepsons, Edward Geiger of Kaukauna, Ray Geiger of Clover, and Ed Geiger of Brillion; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 25 step-grandchildren; 38 step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ernest Behnke of Reedsville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, and three brothers. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ss. John and James Lutheran Church in Reedsville. The Rev. Harland Kuschel, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Brillion Community Cemetery. Friends may call at Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion from 4 p.m., Monday, until 10 a.m., Tuesday, and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
