Mamie “Sis” (Holloway) Spearman, 91, of McAlester, died Sunday, October 10, 2015 at a local nursing center. Mamie was born June 14, 1924 in Celestine, Oklahoma to William A. and Alice Helen (George) Holloway. She graduated from Haywood High School at the age of 16 and earned a teaching certificate from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She married Wayne Spearman September 29, 1944 in McAlester. Mamie taught school at Mountain View. She lived in McAlester until 1959 before she and her family moved to Ada where they lived for 25 years. She attended McAlester and Ada Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday School classes for many years. She was also involved in the Church’s missions programs and attended yearly District Assemblies for the Nazarene Church. The Spearmans moved back to McAlester in 1985. She was a 70 year member of the Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Alice Holloway; her husband: Wayne Spearman on June 23, 2003; sisters: Thelma Webb, Athel Rasmussen, June Hopper; and brothers: William, Dub, Buddy Lee, Thad, Eston, Buck, Ed, and Jack Holloway. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14 at the McAlester Church of the Nazarene with Rev. J. T. Carnell officiating. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Haywood. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
