C. H. Holliman, 67, retired mail carrier of Wilbarger County, died in a Vernon hospital Saturday morning about 12:45 o’clock. He had been ill for two weeks. . . . Mr. Holliman, who retired from postal service last November, was widely known throughout Wilbarger County. He was born Nov. 29, 1875, in Vernon, Ala., and came to Texas when he was 17 years old. He was married to Miss Minnie L. Caffey in Rockdale, Texas, Oct. 8, 1905, and the couple first lived in Madisonville, Texas, where Mr. Holliman taught school. When Mr. Holliman first came to Wilbarger County in 1916 he taught school at Dawson Valley, which is now the Bourland community, and Union community, which is now a part of South Vernon. After 16 years of school teaching, Mr. Holliman joined the postal service here in 1918 and was rural carrier on Route 3 until 1939, when he took over the Route 4 delivery. . . .
