Aberdeen - Funeral service for Dale Potter, 93, Aberdeen, is 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1015 Hwy. 281 North. Burial following at Riverside Memorial Park with Pastor Tony Haglund officiating. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, and one hour before the service Friday at the church.

Dale died April 15, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services.

Dale C. was born Jan. 23, 1912, to Benjamin Franklin and Jesse (Hawkins) Potter, in Jerauld County near Wessington Springs, S.D. Less than 1 year old, his parents and family moved to a farm 10 miles north of Mitchell, S.D. In 1920 the family moved into Mitchell, where he attended grade school and high school graduating in 1929. Dale then attended Mitchell Business College, and graduated with a Commercial Business Degree.

In 1933 he married Florence Connor from Mitchell, where they resided for three years. They moved to Aberdeen in 1936 where they made their home until his death.

While living in Aberdeen, he worked as an accountant for Mobil Oil, until April, 1944, when he became employed at Nash Finch Company as the IBM Accountant until retiring in 1986, as well as working part-time at Tonners Piggly Wiggly as an accountant. In 1988 he worked part-time for Beadle Floral and Nursery until retirement due to health reasons.

Dale loved his family and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Dale was extremely active in all aspects of sports and in his younger years, coached baseball and basketball. He enjoyed many years working with his grandchildren and helping them develop their potentials. He was loved and respected by all.

Grateful for the opportunity to share his life are his wife Florence; son, Dale L. "Buz" (Sherry) Potter of Aberdeen; daughter, Linda (Mick) Zerr of Sioux Falls; his six grandsons: Derin, Brian and Jamey Zerr, Brent, Douglas and Shawn Potter; three honorary grandchildren, Nikki, Jennilee and Curtis Miller; six great-grandchildren, Gage, Shay, Korrina, Kira, Tanea and Jocelyn Rae.

He is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
