Funeral services for Dr. Robert L. Shuler, 65, well known physician of Broadway, Va., and native of the Comers Rock section of Grayson county, who died Saturday night, August 17, 1946 were conducted yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, at Mt. Zion Methodist church, Comers Rock. Death came to Dr. Shuler in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., where he had undergone a major operation on August 13.
The services were conducted by the Rev. B. O. Shannon and the Rev. Robert Herring. Before being brought to Comers Rock, the remains were at the Cookus funeral home in Harrisonburg.
Interment was in the Comers Rock cemetery, where Masonic rites were conducted.
Dr. Shuler, who practiced medicine at Elk Creek, Konnarock and Marion, before going to Broadway, where he practiced for 18 years, is survived by the widow, the former Miss Mary Jane Sutherland, Comers Rock; three daughters, Mrs. Sam Wilkinson, Chilhowie, Mrs. Warren Souder, Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Thomas Bainbridge, Kingsport, Tenn.; one son, Robert Lee Shuler, Jr., Broadway, and three grandchildren. Also surviving are Dr. Shuler's aged parents, E. R. Shuler and wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Parks Shuler, Comers Rock, and five sisters, as follows: Mrs. Birdie Horne, Washington state; Mrs. Daisy Bonham, Grant; Mrs. Ava Bolt, Havre de Grace, Md.; Mrs. A. B. Pafford, Sugar Grove, and Mrs. Mary Parks, Cambria.
Two brothers preceded Dr. Shuler in death. They were Major Thomas Shuler, who died January 23, 1945, and Elbert R. Shuler, who died in 1929.
The deceased became a member of the Methodist church early in life, and was a Mason, holding his Masonic membership at Marion.
