Kathleen Barnhart, wife of the late Charles E. Barnhart, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2014.
Kathy was born in Carlsbad, NM to Jack and Della Williams.
Kathy attended the University of New Mexico, where she met her husband, Charles. Kathy lived in New York City the first year of their marriage, while he was serving in the United States Navy during World War II. The couple worked in Los Alamos, NM after World War II, and later settled in Albuquerque, where she and Charles were active in local and national politics. Kathy served as State Co-Chairwoman for the Committee to Elect the President in 1968 and enjoyed hosting social events, especially when Charles was Chairman of the Albuquerque City Commission.
Kathy was a member of Daughters of the Nile and the Albuquerque Assistance League. A loving mother of four, she served as the Bandelier Elementary School PTA president for nearly a decade. Kathy was the last living member of her class at Carlsbad High and attended reunions as long as she was able.
Kathy was preceded in death by her sisters, Amy Williams and Virginia Olson and brother, David Williams and lost her beloved husband, Charles, in 2007.
Kathy is survived by daughter, Amy Linda Hatch of Albuquerque, NM, sons Charles Randall Barnhart and his wife, Molly Shaw of Albuquerque, NM, John David Barnhart of Albuquerque, NM and Joe Alan Barnhart of Santa Clara, CA, grandchildren, Kathleen Richardson of Albuquerque, NM, Ryan Charles Hatch and his wife, Heather of Cincinnati, OH and Kimberly Ann Barnhart of Albuquerque, NM, step-grandchildren, Sarah Wilbur and her husband, Derek of South West Harbor, ME, Malachi O'Neil and Josiah O'Neil of Albuquerque, NM, niece, Sharon Barnhart Dodge of San Antonio, TX and nephew, Richard D. Williams of Albuquerque, NM.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, at the Chester T. French Memorial Masoleum, burial to follow. Addressing the memorial service will be Pastor James Tsoodle, Capstone Grace Bible Church.
