Mr. Burney was born March 5, 1926 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He married LaVerne Johnson in August of 1961. He worked as a postal clerk at Shawnee Mission Post Office for 37 years. Once retired, Willard and LaVerne enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. As a young man he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife LaVerne Burney, son David Wayne, parents William and Mattie, and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son Jim and wife Traci, granddaughter Taylor Renee; as well as several nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to thank the Kansas City Hospice House for the compassionate care shown to Willard during his final journey home.
