WEDDING BELLS
Happy Union of Two of California's Prominent Families.
Miss Lizzie Power was married at the residence of her mother, Mrs. I.M. Power, in Auburn, last Wednesday, the 26th instant, to Mr. David Biggs, of Gridley, Butte county. The wedding was a union of two of California's best families and the occasion was made a great social event.
The bride is a bright, intelligent and popular young lady, the only daughter of the late M.H. Power, who was on of Placer's most substantial citizens. The groom is a genial and popular young man, the second son of the Hon. Marion Biggs, Sr., late Congressman from this district.
The elegant Power residence on Broad street was elaborately decorated for the occasion and the wedding feast abounded with every luxury that money could buy or good taste suggest.
The decorations, the handiwork of Miss Buhring, Miss Gertie Stone and other young lady friends of the bride, consisted of a profusion of flowers of the most delicate hue, with background of ivy, ferns, palms and other evergreens, all interwoven with silk ribbons of such
shades as to give the most pleasing effect.
They extended from floor to ceiling and were arranged with great artistic taste. The parlor grate was hidden in banks of flowers and flanked with some choice wild flower boquets, and the spacious bay window was a literal bower of beauty. From its ceiling was suspended a large floral bell, and beneath this, at the hour of noon, stood the bride and groom, attended by the bride's two little nieces, Treasure and Forest Power, and her nephew Harold Power Jr., as guards of honor, while the Rev Mr. Buxon, of the Auburn M.E. Church, accompanied by the soft cadences of "Call Me Thine Own," performed with light touch on the piano and violin, pronounced the words that made the happy young couple man and wife. The groom, a fine specimen of manhood, was newly attired in regulation black, and the bride, always attractive, looked more than beautiful in white silk, bridal veil, orange blossoms and diamond ornaments.
Some thiry or more relatives and intimate frinds of the contracting parties were present at the marriage, and at the general reception about 2 o'clock P.M. this number was greatly increased.
Among the relatives and friends who were present from a distance were Herold T. Power. only brother of the bride, with his wife and family, from Sunny South, this county.
From the same place were also Mr. R.M. Sparks, wife and daughter, and F.K. Devely and wife. L.K. Develey was present from San Francisco, Wm. Cameron, wife and daughter from Milpitas, santa clara county, Miss Lillie Harmson from Sacramento, Maj. Marion Biggs Jr. and E. Biggs, brothers of the groom, and Mr. Geo. Develey, the groom's particular friend, all of Gridley, were among the guests on this happy occasion.
At the wedding feast champgne flowed freely and the health of the young couple was the heartfelt toast of all.
The presents were numerous and costly, including a large assortment of solid silver ware in sets and in pieces, some sets of cutlery of find make and handsome design, a large and beautiful gold mounted onyx clock, the latter a gift from the brother and his wife, and other handsome and useful articles too numerous to mention. Several carriage loads of friends accompanied the young couple to the depot at 4 o'clock P.M. where they took the train for San Francisco, Montery, Los Angeles and Mexico, which places they expect to visit during their wedding tour.
