LYONS FALLS – Leo V. Jordan, 87, formerly of Lyons Falls, died Tuesday morning at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

Leo was born November 21, 1926, in Massena, NY, a son of the late Thomas and Myrtle Martin Jordan. He grew up in Lyons Falls and attended Lyons Falls High School.

In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served until his retirement in 1959.

He married Hazel (Jane) Barton on February 5, 1951, at St. Agnes Church in London, England, with the Rev. Thomas R. Allen officiating. After their marriage, the couple moved to the United States. In May 1959, Mr. Jordan was appointed by the U.S. Senate to the position of Postmaster and assigned to the Lyons Falls Post Office. He held the position until 1982, and then was assigned to the Croghan Post Office until his retirement in 1986.

He is survived by his five daughters; his loving companion, Elizabeth; two sisters; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Jordan was predeceased by his wife, Hazel (Jane) Jordan, who died on August 24, 2000; his parents; two brothers, Thomas and his (Leo's) twin, Leonard (Pete); three sisters, Marguerite Peebles, Iona Burnham and Inez Reynolds; and by a grandson, Aaron Fahey.


Mr. Jordan was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Constableville and St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Watertown. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the South Lewis Council Knights of Columbus. Leo was a member of the Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, Lowville VFW and Lowville American Legion Post #162.


He was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a safety instructor, and taught hunter's safety classes for 25 years.
