Death came suddenly early Friday morning to 42-year-old Harold Walter Berggren who passed away at his home of a heart attack. Mr. Berggren had been in ill health for the past two months. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Mattson Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank A. Johnson of Faith Lutheran church officiating. Soloist Neil Robinson sang two hymns -- "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. Robinson the organist. Interment was in the Scandinavian cemetery. Harold W. Berggren was born May 27, 1919, in St. Paul, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Berggren Sr. He grew up in Forest Lake, attending the Forest Lake schools. On December 16, 1944, he was united in marriage with Ruth Bigler at Trinity Lutheran church in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin. During World War II he saw active fighting with the Rangers in Salerno, Sicily, and received a medical discharge because of injuries. After his discharge he returned to Forest Lake and later worked in St. Paul. Mr. Berggren was employed for some time as a mechanic with the Stokes Oil Co. He was interested in sports and enjoyed hobbies of hunting and fishing. He was a member of Faith Lutheran church, Hiram Lodge 287 of Lindstrom, Forest Lake Lodge U.D. and the VFW Post 4210. Surviving are his wife Ruth, a 15-year-old son and 13-year-old twin daughters. He is also survived by his father, Carl B. Berggren, Sr.; three brothers; and three sisters.
