Philip Leslie Voelker was one of three children of Washington Henry Voelker and Mary Emmons Scoullar. Washington was first married to Katie who died in childbirth with their son, Harold. Philip was brother to Edwin Henry and Effie Mae. Edwin Henry Voelker married but did not have children. Effie Mae died young as the result of a kitchen accident. Philip Leslie Voelker is a graduate of Brown University and was an engineer. Philip was tall and liked to play golf. He and his wife, Mildred Louisa Hoyle Voelker, raised their family in the home next door to Mildred's parents and next door to one of Mildred's brothers, Philip and Rose Hoyle. Eventually, Mildred's parent's home became the home of another of MIldred's brothers, Joseph "Bogey" and Elinor Hoyle, and their three sons, Joseph, Craig and William.
