CRESTLINE: DANIEL "DAN" N. SCHROEDER, 87, of Crestline, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Galion Community Hospital.

Dan was born in Leipsic, Ohio on March 10, 1927 to the late Herman and Agnes (Verhoff) Schroeder. He married Martha Weaver on July 28, 1948 and she survives him.

Dan was a farmer for 45 years. He was the manager of the former Royster Fertilizer, Crestline and previously was a salesman of John Deere Equipment at Wyandot Tractor in Upper Sandusky. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force.

Dan led a very active life in his church and community. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Crestline and was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Pope John XXIII Assembly, Bucyrus. He was also a member of the VFW Post # 2920, Crestline and the American Legion Post # 488, Crestline. Dan belonged to the Crawford County Farm Bureau and served on the Crawford County Fair Board. He was a member of the Johnny Appleseed Woodcarvers and certainly had an artistic flair for carving. He sang for many years with the Country Gentlemen Barbershop Chorus and belonged to the Crestline Golf League. In addition to his other hobbies, Dan also enjoyed hunting.

As well as his wife Martha, Dan is survived by two daughters: Donna (Ronald) Pry of Tiro and Nancy (Jack) Smith of Ashland; his three sons: Ron (Deb) Schroeder of Crestline, Ken (Kelly) Schroeder of Lexington and Tom Schroeder of Shiloh; 12 grandchildren: Nicole, Neil, Natalie, Nandee, Jeff, Jarrod, Nick, Tiffany, Ryan, Riley, Heather and Chad; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his seven brothers: Joseph, Bob, Serge, Gene, Charles, Lee and Tom Schroeder; his four sisters: Ruth Lammers, Edna Krienbrink, Jane Core and his infant sister, Mary Agnes Schroeder; and his grandson: Erin Schroeder.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline where a vigil service will be held at 8:00 p.m. with Deacon William Horning officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday June 5, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline, with Rev. Michael Geiger, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force and the Crestline/Galion area veteran's organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline in care of the funeral home.
