Eugene J. Schroeder, 69, of 4360 Brannon Rd., Crestline, died Friday evening, April 10, 1998 in L. W. Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Florida after suffering a heart attack earlier in the day at his winter home.

Mr. Schroeder was born March 23, 1929 in Leipsic, Ohio the son of the late Herman and Agnes (Verhoff) Schroeder. He was the owner of Walnut Grain Farms, in Crawford County and had been a farmer all his life. He was a member of Sacred Heart Of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem; Shelby Knights Of Columbus Council #1968, where he had served as Grand Knight, and was a Fourth Degree Member of Pope John XXIII Assembly in Crawford County. He had served on the state level as a District Deputy and Public Relations Chairman and had been a delegate to the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Convention.

He was an avid golfer, a member of the Shelby Country Club, the Shelby Club, and was on the Board of Directors of the Federal Land Bank.

He was a loving husband, father , grandfather and brother to: His wife, Mary Ann (Follman) Schroeder, whom he married on February 18, 1950; 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, William and Fran Schroeder of Shelby and John and Angel Schroeder of Shelby; 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Patricia and Russell Todd of Galena, Ohio and Susan and Patrick Logsdon of New Washington, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, Justin, Curtis, Anthony and Cara Schroeder, Brian Todd and Angela and Crista Logsdon; 3 brothers and 4 sisters-in-law, Leander and Ruth Schroeder of Shelby, Dan and Martha Schroeder of Crestline, Bob and Mildred Schroeder of Shelby, and Elvera Schroeder of Galion; 3 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Edna Kreinbrink of Shelby, Ruth Lammers of Ottawa, Ohio and Jane and George Core of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania; his father-in-law, John Follman of Bucyrus.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Schroeder, 4 brothers, Serge Schroeder, Charles Schroeder, Tom Schroeder and Joseph Schroeder, and by 1 sister, Mary Agnes Schroeder.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 1-4 and 6-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where a Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 P.M. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand as honor guards from 6-9 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem, with Father Gary Walters officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Restoration Fund or Fairway/Way Craft in Bucyrus.
