He was buried in the extant Old Burying Ground in Newark, NJ and was moved to this cemetery in the 1800's.
The son of Rev. Samuel and Hannah (Goodyear) Wakeman, he married Eunice Howell Sept. 29, 1702 at Southampton, NY. Following his death, the widow Eunice m. 2) June 26, 1706 as his 2nd wife, Joseph Talcott, who would become Gov. of Conn., 1724-1741.

Jabez was a graduate of Harvard in 1697 and Pastor of the First Church of Newark.
