Albert D. Van Zante, son of Delos Van Zante and Echje Van Houweling, was born on a farm in Marion County near Otley on November 7, 1880. His entire lifetime was spent in this area until his death which occurred at his farm home March 2, 1956, having reached the age of 75 years, three months, and 25 days.
He was united in marriage to Elsie McReynolds at Otley, Iowa, on March 15, 1911. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive: Francis Van Zante of Reasnor, Ia., Cordelia, Mrs. Myron Nollen, of Pella, and Minnie Rose, Mrs. Samuel Miller of Ira, Ia. Mrs. Carl Shannon preceded him in death.
He made profession of faith in the Otley Reformed Church and through all the following years was active in its affairs. He served as elder and deacon in the church there for over 30 years.
Surviving beside his wife and three children are eight grandchildren: Mrs. Esther Faivre, Carolyn Shannon, Norman Van Zante, Carlene Van Zante, Louise Van Zante, Joan Nollen, Edith Nollen, and Carol Ann Nollen; also one sister, Dirkie, Mrs. John Boot of Prairie City and one brother, Antone T. Van Zante of Otley, Iowa. Eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, March 6, 1956, from the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home at 12:45 p.m. and the Otley Reformed Church at 1:30 with the Rev. Lester Muller in charge. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery at Pella.
