Services for Mr. Francis M. VanZante of Pella were held Monday, May 21, 2001 at the Otley Reformed Church in Otley. Rev. Norman J. Schouten, officiated the services. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella, Iowa.

Francis passed away May 17, 2001 at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella at the age of 87. He was born on December 3, 1913, near Otley, Iowa. He was an only son born to Albert D. and Elsie McReynolds VanZante. Francis attended country grade schools, in Marion and Jasper Counties and graduated from Monroe High school in Monroe, Iowa 1931. On October 22, 1941 he was united in marriage with Ellen Elscott at her parent's farm home near Taintor, Iowa. Francis and Ellen lived on the farm north of Pella, Iowa, in Jasper County until they retired and moved to Pella. Francis built their home on the farm. In 1978 they moved into Pella to their home, but Francis continued to return to the farm daily in his pick-up. He was named Master Port Producer in 1958 and actively participated in farm and community activities during his life. He had served on the local School Board, the Pella Rural Electric Cooperative Board, and the Otley Cooperative Exchange Board. He served as a 4-H leader and was elected the Board of Supervisors in Jasper County. Francis was a life-long member of the Otley Reformed Church in Otley. He taught Sunday School and served as an Elder on the consistory for many years.

Survivors are his wife, Ellen of Pella, Iowa; 3 children: Norman [Mary Woody] VanZante of Pella; Carlene [Bernard] VanDePol of Sully; Louise[ Brian] Wilson of Monroe, Iowa; 8 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren. Of his original family, Francis leaves hisyoungest sister, Minnie Miller of Newton & brother-in-law, Myron W. Nollen of Pella, Iowa. Preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
