Camden - A freak accident claimed the life of 23 year old Alfred I Kampa of Route 1, Elgin, Tuesday afternoon when he stepped into a Christmas tree holder used to feed his dog, lost his balance, crashed into a window of his home and slashed his upper arm almost to the bone.
Kampa bled to death while being rushed to the Kershaw County Memorial Hospital.
He had just returned from work in an upholstery company in Columbia when the accident occurred.
His wife went to his side immediately, while his stepchildren ran to the neighbors for assistance in getting him to the hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Bradwell Davis; his parents, Mr and Mrs Franz Kampa, Germany; three sisters, Mrs Johanna Fischer, Germany, and Mrs Lucy Kampa Gartman and Mrs Theresia Kampa Davis of Columbia, and two stepchildren, Pete and Debbie Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday in the Dunbar Funeral Home, and interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
