Kylene Griselda McClain was born in Adams County, Iowa on January 31, 1915 and passed away in a Bakersfield hospital on December 15, 2004. She lived her younger years on a farm in Mt. Etna, Iowa. She met and married her late husband, Emmett on August 6, 1934. In 1936 the couple loaded up the truck and moved to California, Taft that is, "tumble weeds, oil derricks, and smog". Kylene and Emmett later owned and operated Hoyst Pipe and Supply Company on Supply Row until Emmett's retirement in 1963. Kylene then proceeded to work at our local school district for several years as a custodian and cafeteria worker until her retirement in the late 70's. Kylene was an avid member of the Rebekah Lodge for many years. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church and West Kern Oil Museum. Kylene was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Emmett, in 1989, a brother, Kenneth, sister, Ada Noecker, parents Chester and Ethel Thompson.
