He was born to Early Filmore Acreman and Mary Lodgen Acreman in Crenshaw County Alabama on Feb.3, 1937.
He retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force where he also served as a medic in Vietnam. He also retired from Empire Gas/All Star Gas after 21 years as vice president over the treasury.
He married his wife Anita on Dec. 28,1958.
He attended White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Rose Holmes, Maude Bradley and Irene Buck; and 1 brother, Ray Acreman.
He is survived by his wife, Anita, of the home; three daughters, Erika Smithenan and her husband, Steve, of Selma, Ala.; Ida Ryan and her husband, Jim, of Saudi Arabia; and Mary Sexton and her husband, Tommy, of Centerville, Tenn.; four sisters, Bessie West and her husband, Walter, of Dalton, Ala.; Essie Bush of Gautier, Miss.; Barbara Lambert and her husband, David, of Pensacola, Fla.; and Earline Kelso of Greenville, Ala.; also five grandchildren, Suzanne, Summer and Joanna Smitherman and Chelsa and Travis Ryan.
Funeral services for James E. Acreman will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at the White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tony Janner officiating.
Burial with full military rites, with a ceremonial contingent from Whiteman Air Force Base, will be in White Oak Pond Cemetery, under the direction of the Colonial Funeral Chapel of Lebanon. Visitation will be at the Colonial Chapel Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.
A memorial has been established for the Hickman Humane Society at P.O. Box 183, Centerville, Tenn. 37033.
