Dyce was a Fireman in Mansfield, OH for 29 years. Named Captain 1962, Assistant Chief 1971, and Chief December of 1971.

In 1968 Dyce was named Fireman of the Year by the Mansfield Area Safety Council for his rescue of a construction worker from a elevator shaft under construction.

Dyce was lowered 57 feet into a 20 inch pipe in an elevator well where the construction worker had fallen at the site of Lazarus Department Store at the Richland Mall.

Dyce wrapped his legs around the unconscious construction worker and both were raised to safety.

Dyce's Body was taken from his funeral at St. Peters Catholic Church to his final resting place Mansfield Catholic Cemetery aboard a Fire truck.

The Fire truck and funeral procession passed by the Fire station No. 1. Black bunting that had been draped across East Third Street in front of the station.
