Winifred "Winnie" V. King, 80, of Malvern, entered into eternal peace on Friday, May 23, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Winnie was born on Halloween 1933 in Philadelphia to the late Patrick J. and Catherine A. (McDonagh) Prendergast Sr.
Winnie is survived by her loving husband, Charles A. King Sr.; sister, Mary T. (Mamie) Prendergast; children, Tina Conn (George (d.)), Chuck Jr., Kat D'Andrea (Uppy) and Elena D'Antonio; grandchildren, including great- and great-greats-, Richard Hoffman Jr., Christine Singley (Eric), Scott Hoffman, Mark Hoffman (Campbell), Heather Levine (Greg), Lisa King. Brianna Singley, Elizabeth Singley, Gabriella Singley, Grant Hoffman, Renee Hoffman, Griffin Hoffman, Ashley Levine, Tyler Ballard, Amanda Ballard and Karmon Dicken, Jordyn West and Korbyn West; and countless other family members who loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, sisters and their spouses; James F. and Florence Prendergast, Thomas M. and Merna Prendergast, Patrick J. and Elizabeth (Betty) Prendergast, Loretta (Tessy), Eleanor and Peter J. Burke, Edward and Margaret (Peggy) Prendergast.
She grew up in the city but found her husband, Charlie, and moved to the country in 1950.
Winnie worked for Acme Markets Inc. as a clerk/office manager/cashier for 34 years before retiring in 1994.
She loved her family, crossword puzzles, reading, dressing up as Winnie the Witch on Halloween, making chocolate chip cookies for Christmas presents, making lists, and sitting on the beach in places like Hawaii, the Caribbean and Myrtle Beach.
She donated her time to handling hotline calls for Contact Philadelphia in the 1980s.
The viewing will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home in Malvern.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church in Malvern.
Burial will follow in Willistown Friends Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Willow Tree Hospice (Kennett Square, Pa.)
