AUSTIN -- The funeral for Wesley E. Crowder will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Austin Church of Christ with the Rev. Ron Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Crowder, 76, of 1417 Seventh Ave. N.W., a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Tuesday (Jan. 27, 1998) at Burr Oak Manor Nursing Home in Austin as a result of complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He was born July 4, 1921, in Albert Lea, and graduated from Wykoff High School. He was married to Juanita Steinberger; they later divorced. On Nov. 24, 1949, he married Bernyce H. Faulkner at St. John's Lutheran Parsonage in Austin. She survives. Mr. Crowder was a Hormel employee for 31 years until his retirement in 1972. For eight years, he was also employed as a construction supervisor with the Ed Speer Construction Company in Davenport, Iowa. The couple later moved to Lake of the Ozarks at Versailles, Mo., where they owned and operated a Dairy Queen Brazier.
In November 1985, they retired, returning to Austin in 1988. Mr. Crowder was a member of Austin Church of Christ, and served as a deacon and trustee, Sunday School teacher and youth adviser. He was a former member of the Cedar Valley Conservation Club and the Eagles, and an avid bowler. He was a member of the 600 and 700 club at Echo Lanes and was inducted into the Austin Bowlers Hall of Fame. He also pitched softball for the Church of Christ and Loin Cooler softball teams. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was the leader of the Melody Ramblers Country Western band for 19 years. Mr. Crowder was also a member of the American Red Cross and a volunteer with the St. Olaf Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis of Austin; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a brother, Donald of Mesa, Ariz.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin, and at the church one hour before the service on Friday.
