John was born about 1625 in England, probably Syleham, Suffolk. His parents were Joshua and Elizabeth Fisher. His mother died in England about 1637 and his father remarried. The family came to New England and settled first in Dedham, Massachusetts. In about 1651, they came to Medfield in Norfolk County at its settlement. On April 6, 1658, he married Elizabeth Boylston in Medfield. As a wedding gift, his father and step-mother gave him four acres of the homestead, some other land, and stock and tools of his father's blacksmith shop. He was to inherit the entire estate at the death of his father. John and Elizabeth had four children, two who lived to be adults.

Elizabeth died in 1665 and he married as his second wife, Mary Treadway. They had two children. John died on July 3, 1668. He had written a will, in which he gave Mary a right to his house and personal property. His eldest son John was to have a double portion of his estate. The only cemetery being used in Midfield at the time of John's death was Vine Lake Cemetery. That is most likely where he is buried. There are many unmarked graves in the cemetery.
